Dan Kubin's new Sidewinder, the V46er
Durable anodised finish that helps prevent corrosion.
This Featherweight model has just about the perfect amount of mass, where it's light and nimble, but not so light that it wants to jump out of your hand or feel shaky (4.4 oz - about 1 oz heavier than other Featherweights, and 1.5 oz lighter than regular brass machines).
The 46er is the culmination of my 4-6 Sidewinders versions, remastered and improved to perfection. This machine features a large stroke adjustment range that can accommodate single needle work, all the way up to the largest liners and mag shaders.
This machine is very strong at the tip with great tracking. Its number one purpose is as a strong, accurate, off the tip liner liner, although it has proven itself to be much more capable.
Beautiful deep black nickel plating, adorned with polished brass fittings that will naturally patina over the years.
Features include:
Wider springs for durability.
Large, easy to turn, hardened steel race wheel. Pre-set stroke range and intermediate timing mark to prevent the machine from becoming too out of synch when experimenting.
Hardened alloy steel impact pin. Positioned towards the rear of the frame to reduce noise.
Large cam with precise timing mark. Allows easier and more accurate impact alignment checks.
Smooth and easy clamping tube clamp.
Forward weight distribution for better ergonomics.
Beautiful brass armature bar, perfectly balanced for a strong, safe and consistent strike.
O-ring groove in the bar allows for a quieter option (although it will also reduce performance)
Reliable Mabuchi motor. -because they run forever without losing consistency.
Weight:
Standard (brass frame construction): 6oz
Featherweight (7075 aluminium frame): 4.4oz
Recommended voltage range: 4 - 6.5 volts
Approximate travel range: 2 - 4mm (note that the travel rises more due to springs. The stroke of a Sidewinder cannot be compared to other rotary drives as the stroke is completely different.)
Polarity: Positive up - turns the motor clockwise - hits harder, ideal for large groups of liners
Positive down - rotates the motor anticlockwise - slightly passive stroke, ideal for shading and fine lines
