CHICANO

Chicano art has its origins in Mexican culture in the United States. It is associated with religious images such as portraits of Jesus, rosaries, crucifixes, virgins, etc.

This type of tattooing has gained prominence because of its realistic style and its widespread use in Latin American populations. Most of them are done using black, but some others are very colourful and have a variety of themes.

One of the most relevant books of this style is Hennes Sketches Book, a copy of more than one hundred pages and 350 designs in which nautical themes prevail, as well as flowers such as roses and, of course, images of girls.

For his part, the artist José Araujo brings us in his book Tattoo Flash Collection a reminiscence of the tattooing of the streets of Los Angeles in the nineties, a reference of urban and Chicano culture.

Impossible not to mention the emblematic editorial collaboration of Todd Noble & Chuco Moreno in the book Ladies Night. A complete and excellent display of art by two great artists, the volume is composed of images of girls that are perfect for tattoo artists' stencils.

Whatever a tattooist's preferred style, his studio must offer a variety of alternatives to his clients and books and magazines are an option to find ideas for your tattoo.
